Marketing and advertising professionals wistfully recall “the good old days” when mass marketing and creative imagery and sloganeering were considered the best ways to attract buyers for products, and when plain-vanilla reach and frequency were the key metrics.

But by and large, the days of cheerful clip-cloppity Budweiser Clydesdale horses and slogans like “Have a Coke and a Smile” are over (not counting the tsunami of cash poured into February’s NFL Super Bowl ads).

Instead, because consumers’ attention (“eyeballs”) has migrated to the internet and mobile phones, big data, and social media are the ways marketers and advertisers target their narrowing audience niches.

From the perspective of PE investors, these transformations have created acquisition opportunities suited to their skills at analyzing data, forecasting trends, and adapting to change in marketing, media, and information technology.

As a result, investing is on the rise in marketing services and advertising companies
(“mar-tech” and “ad-tech”).

Register now to attend The Capital Roundtable’s inaugural conference on- “Private Equity Investing in Marketing Services and Advertising Companies” being held in New York City on Tuessday, June 6.

Here are examples of the big shifts --

  • The channels for marketing and advertising have multiplied.
  • The pace of change has increased exponentially.
  • The players have grown beyond big marketing holding companies and old-school print, radio, and TV media networks.
  • Technology giants like Google, Facebook, and Amazon now dominate the traditional players.
  • Artificial intelligence is a new disruptive force.
  • Tracking effectiveness of advertising has become much more important – and more doable.
  • Pricing models are changing to more of a “marketing-as-a-service” model, i.e., fees paid on a monthly or annual basis, so that revenue is predictable.

Out of these changes have evolved amazing opportunities for investors --

  • To aggregate companies and download multiple products from “the cloud.”
  • To choose among a proliferation of young companies that afford potential to buy at cheaper valuations.
  • To compete for exit opportunities as numerous acquirers look to buy professionally managed businesses.
  • To hire finance professionals who understand data crunching and revenue modeling.

Here Are Three Key Reasons You Should Join Us at This Conference

  1. Learn what types of companies PE firms are targeting in the volatile marketing services industry
  2. Hear how firms are taking advantage of the trend toward using big data.
  3. Better understand the universe of potential acquirers and the acquisitions they want to make.
