In recent months, more and more PE investors have gotten excited about healthcare support organizations (HSOs) -- the fast-growing behind-the-scenes companies to whom medical practitioners now outsource their administrative minutiae so they can focus on helping their patients.
Middle-market PE firms add operational efficiencies, as well as needed capital. And they introduce new technologies and best practices for business functions.
HSOs provide a wide range of services such as billing and collections, government reimbursement oversight, coding, revenue cycle management, strategic planning, and marketing.

Even LPs are entering the field -- e.g., Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan invested in a physical therapy support organization.

Sean has spent his career in the middle market. He used to be an analyst with William Blair & Co. focusing on mergers and acquisitions, and public and private equity financings. He joined Prairie Capital in 2004, and currently serves on the boards of Riverchase Dermatology, National Enzyme, Northfield Medical, and Chicago Deferred Exchange Company.
Sean earned a BS in finance from the University of Illinois and an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago.
