When it comes to human capital, private equity GPs and LPs expect operating partners to be magicians.

At the same time, they expect OPs to scout talent, coach managers, build and motivate teams, solve problems -- and accurately review performance.

No wonder when our conference producers ask OPs to say what part of their job is most challenging, their answer is always “the people.”

At this conference, in one information-packed day, you’re going to hear scores of examples and real-world practices that you can immediately put to good use.  And you can share ideas with other attendees and featured speakers.

Click here to receive your best rate -- a savings of $400 on our regular conference rates.

Here are four topics you’ll hear a lot about --

  • Executing top-grading interviews and designing compensation plans.
  • Predicting a management team's ability to be effective in the next chapters of a company's lifespan.
  • Identifying traits that make managers successful as generalists, versus traits that serve them best as specialists.
  • Designing strategies for improving executional effectiveness when companies are growing rapidly -- or facing worst-case distressed scenarios.

So whether you’re an operating partner, or you work with them, you definitely belong at The Capital Roundtable's conference on “Best Practices for PE Operating Partners in Overseeing Portfolio Companies” -- being held in New York City on Thursday, May 12th.

Here Are Three Reasons Why You Should Join Us

  1. Understand how to perform due diligence on a management team without upsetting the applecart.
  2. Recognize the challenges you face when you bring in consultants to help a dysfunctional team work better.
  3. Determine when you can improve your managers versus when you should replace them.

Register Now to Join Tom Nolan and Over 20 Industry Experts

We’re delighted to welcome as our conference chair Tom Nolan, operating director for portfolio support at Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based firm investing eight private equity funds with aggregate capital commitments of over $11 billion.

Tom has been a pivotal part of the Berkshire team since 2008, when he came on board as a member of the Portfolio Support Group.

Before joining Berkshire, Tom held a number of senior positions, at Heritage Union Life Insurance Co., and Circuit City Stores.  Earlier in his career he, worked at Capital One Financial Corp. Bain & Co., and General Electric Company.

Tom earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BS from the University of Michigan.

Register Now to Learn How to Effectively Maneuver In Today's Environment

This conference features 20 top operating partners and portfolio company executives who will share their lessons learned, plus specific insights on managing portfolio companies.

They will be answering such questions as --

  • What’s the ideal profile of a successful portfolio company executive? What capabilities are sought most by PE firms?
  • Are PE firms gravitating toward operating partners who are generalists or specialists? What types of specialists are most in demand?
  • How much coaching is an operating partner expected to do with an acquired company's senior managers?
  • What specific issues arise when integrating teams during M&A?
  • Beyond strategic knowledge, what are the most important emotional traits that make for successful operating partners?
  • What are the most crucial benchmarks for helping operating partners better manage costs?
  • When do shared services and outsourcing make the most sense?
  • What are LPs' expectations of a GP's operational oversight capabilities today?
  • How early are operating partners being brought into deals?
  • How are relationships between operating partners and deal partners perceived within the PE community?

Three More Reasons Why You Should Join Us

  1. Find out which metrics are most important when assessing performance levels of management teams.
  2. Learn how successful PE firms match their operating partners' backgrounds to specific portfolio companies.
  3. When merging add-on acquisitions to portfolio platforms, understand when it’s best to adopt a “best of both” approach to identify which services and processes to keep and which to terminate.
