FULL-DAY CONFERENCE

8:00 am – 5:00 pm
New York City

Designed to Meet the Needs of GPs, LPs, & Managers of Buyout, Growth Equity, Mezzanine, & Lending Funds, as Well as Independent Sponsors, Operating Partners, Portfolio Company Managers, and the Bankers, Lawyers, Accountants,

& Other Advisors Who Support Them

Faculty | Schedule | Registration | Location | Sponsorship | Audio Package |

One of the most remarkable features of the transportation, distribution, and logistics sector is that despite being so gigantic ($1.8 trillion in revenues, over 10% of the economy), for the most part it’s very fragmented, so entry by middle-market PE investors is very achievable.

What’s more, many companies that were taken off the market in the past few years are now returning, as sellers see that buyers are more interested and valuations may be getting more attractive.

You’ll find out why this sector offers unequaled potential to grow and build profitable companies at The Capital Roundtable’s ENCORE conference on “Private Equity Investing in Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics  Companies” held in New York City on Thursday, October 25.

Plus we’ll deliver special savings when you sign up now for this conference. Make your reservation before August 31, 2012, and you’ll receive $400 off our regular price with our generous Early Bird Discount.

The Capital Roundtable is grateful to Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff and Grant Thornton for sponsoring this outstanding event.  It’s due in great part to their collaboration that we can promise that this conference is going to be so worthwhile for you.

Thanks to the globalization of commerce and corresponding rise in freight transport, the changing ways production is sourced, and the growing efficiencies from technology, this sector is filled with interesting investment opportunities.

In part, that’s because it’s a classic example of how collaboration between users and providers can lead to two-way success.  This industry is known for its spirit of open-minded collaboration among manufacturers, retailers, trucking firms, air freight, warehouses, third-party services, and other players.

To chair this timely conference, we’re delighted to welcome John Anderson, advisory director at Greenbriar Equity Group -- a $1.5 billion middle-market private equity firm in Rye, N.Y., focused exclusively across the full spectrum of the global transportation industry.

John joined Greenbriar in 2011.  Prior to that, he spent 12 years as a managing director with Fenway Partners, where he founded and co-led the transportation and logistics investment practice.  Before joining Fenway, he was Executive VP with two railroads, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and CSX Transportation.  He was also a partner with McKinsey & Co. for 13 years.

John is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University with a BS in mechanical engineering, and received an MBA from Harvard Business School with distinction.  He is chairman of the North American Electric Reliability Corp., which is responsible for the reliability of the electric transmission grid in the U.S. and Canada.

20 Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics Experts Share Their Experiences

Along with John, four panel discussions will feature 20 other private equity experts in transportation, distribution, and logistics deals.  You’ll hear from GPs, portfolio company operating executives, investment bankers, lenders, consultants, and more -- offering real-world perspectives, lessons learned and industry outlooks, plus insights on managing current portfolio companies.

They will share their real-world perspectives, lessons learned, and industry outlooks, including insights on recent deal activity and managing current portfolio companies.

Just some of the most recent transportation, distribution, and logistics deals include --

  • Roark Capital Group’s acquisition from KLH Capital of QualaWash Holdings, a provider of environmental services to the bulk transportation industry.
  • Greenbriar Equity Group’s acquisition from KRG Capital Partners of PetroChoice, a leading value-added distributor of petroleum lubricant solutions.
  • Platinum Equity’s purchase of a 65% stake in Caterpillar’s third-party logistics unit.
  • Lovell Minnick Partners’ acquisition from Falfurrias Capital Partners of Commercial Credit Group -- a commercial equipment finance and leasing company focused on transactions in the construction, fleet transportation, and waste industries.
  • Balmoral Funds’ portfolio company Dispatch Commodity Trucking’s acquisition of the aggregates-hauling assets of Valley Aggregate Transport Inc.
  • Larsen MacColl Partners’ portfolio company A&S Services Group’s acquisition of Kinard Trucking -- a provider of transportation solutions for shippers.
  • The Carlyle Group’s sale of RMI, a provider of transportation management software solutions for the rail industry, to GE Transportation.

You’ll hear why third-party logistics continues to be a powerful trend.  These non-asset owning or asset-light intermediaries depend on proprietary technology and intellectual property to arrange and manage transportation, warehousing, and supply chains.

In addition, the carriers themselves are adding technology.  New innovations in shipping support solutions are producing supernormal growth among providers that outpaces the growth of overall business.  The new normal is to have transportation, supply chain management, and logistic services all working together to create dramatic efficiencies.

We’ll also discuss how fuel costs will be impacting the sector in 2012-13.  These costs have become a much larger part of cost structures over the past years, and the most successful companies are those that can manage their fuel purchases well and be nimble at handling price fluctuations.

Register now to get the answers to important questions like these --

  • What makes the transportation, distribution, and logistics industry so attractive to middle‑market investors?
  • What are some of the main challenges transportation, distribution, and logistics firms face today?
  • How eager are lenders to participate in transportation, logistics, and distribution deals?
  • Where are the best opportunities in the sector for 2013 and beyond?
  • Why are logistics businesses eager to come to market?
  • What consolidations within this fragmented industry have recently taken place?
  • What are some of the current middle-market deals worth noting?
  • How can companies get due diligence right when evaluating prospective investments?
  • What do the growing trends of insourcing back into the United States and near sourcing into Mexico mean for the transportation sector?
  • What near-term support is expected from government economic development?
  • How can you add value to your existing transportation portfolio companies?
  • And much, much more.
