The agribusiness industry is underrepresented in private equity portfolios, but this is about to change dramatically.

Global demand for food is projected to double between now and 2050, when the UN estimates that the world population will reach nearly 9 billion.  Because the amount of arable land in the world is fixed, agribusiness companies will need to produce more food on the same amount of land by harnessing more efficient technologies and farming techniques.

The need for greater efficiency is driving the searches for more productive inputs, for ways to minimize waste, and for sustainable production.

These trends create attractive opportunities all along the food and agribusiness value chain for producers of protein, manufacturers of farm and aquaculture equipment, agricultural inputs, as well as for providers of transportation and logistics services.

There’s a lot to learn about the factors driving agribusiness today, and it’ll all be covered at this all-NEW conference from The Capital Roundtable.

If you want to find out about promising investments for 2012 and beyond,

or strategies for accelerating your current agribusiness portfolio companies,

make plans now to join us.

Plus you can harvest special savings when you sign up now for this conference.

You’re in time to take advantage of our Early Bird Discount –

a generous savings of $400!

Just two examples of recent middle-market activity include Paine & Partners’ acquisition of Scanbio Marine Group, a Norwegian producer of fish protein concentrate, fish meal, and fish oil and TPG Capital’s upcoming IPO for portfolio company Elevance Renewable Sciences, a producer of specialty chemicals made from natural oils.

To help us assure timely content for this all-NEW conference on Thursday, January 19, 2012, in New York, we’re delighted to welcome as our chairman Dexter Paine, of Paine & Partners, America’s best-known private equity firm focusing on the global agribusiness and food industries.

The firm’s 20-person team makes investments through its $1.2 billion fund, Paine & Partners Capital Fund III, L.P.

Paine & Partners (as well as its principals and predecessor entities) has made industry leading investments in the agribusiness and food sectors.

Paine & Partners’ predecessor firm made highly successful investments in Seminis, the world’s leading global developer, producer, and marketer of vegetable and fruit seeds, and Advanta Netherlands Holdings BV, which was at the time of investment, the largest independent agronomic seed company in the world.

Paine & Partners has made investments in Icicle Seafoods, a leading producer, harvester and processor of salmon, pollock, halibut, cod, crab, and other seafood products, with operations in North and South America and sales globally; the Costa Group of companies, Australia’s largest private producer, marketer and exporter of high-quality fresh fruit and vegetables; and Scanbio Marine Group, a Norwegian producer of fish protein concentrate, fish meal, and fish oil.

Dexter is a founding partner of Paine & Partners.  He was formerly with Robertson Stephens, Kohlberg & Company, and Bankers Trust.  He serves as a member of the boards of directors of WireCo WorldGroup and Cevian Capital and as chairman of the board of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.  Dexter holds a BA in economics from Williams College.

20 Agribusiness Investment Experts Explain the Sector from the Ground Up

Joining Dexter will be a team of 20 panelists freely sharing their substantial experience with agribusiness deals.  You’ll hear from GPs, portfolio company operating executives, investment bankers, lenders, consultants, and more—bringing you timely data, analysis, and tactics for success within this marketplace.

Register now to hear answers to the questions you’re sure to have:

  • Which middle-market agribusiness subsectors offer the best opportunities for investors?
  • What are the challenges agribusiness products and services companies face today?
  • How does the rapid growth of the middle class affect worldwide protein demand?
  • How are agribusiness products and services companies helping farmers increase yields?
  • Where are commodity prices headed in 2012?  How will this affect the sector?
  • How are environmental and safety regulations affecting agribusiness companies?
  • Is the current consumer interest in organic products a sustainable trend or a short‑term infatuation?
  • What can agribusiness companies do to minimize waste in the supply chain?
  • Which food producers are best positioned to benefit from an improving economy?
  • And much, much more.
