In the new model, providers have to deploy technology to become more efficient, and become full-scale sources that take on risk instead of being just points in the solution.  Similarly, payers have to thin their bases, and work only with the best providers to cut costs.

 

So, investors have to either build up a business so it can be a consolidator of integrated services, or make it a good acquisition candidate for a regional hospital system or other major player wanting to expand their service network (or “accountable healthcare organization.”)  That takes an absolute focus on best of breed service, low readmission rates, and other utilization metrics.

 

To chair this all-NEW conference on Thursday, November 15, in New York, we’re delighted to welcome Scott Perricelli, partner at LLR Partners in Philadelphia -- a leading middle-market private equity firm with over $1.4 billion under management.

 

Scott has 12 years of private equity investment and investment banking experience.  He specializes in healthcare and co-leads LLR’s healthcare practice. 

 

Previously, he was an investment banker at William Blair & Co., and a private equity associate at Advanta Partners. He holds a BS in accounting from Bucknell University, and an MBA in finance and entrepreneurship from Northwestern University.

But there is one trap for the unwary -- marginal providers will be unable to survive.  With increased utilization comes major price compression -- reimbursement will lower, technology demands will rise, and there will be clear winners and losers.

  • Audax Group and Frazier Healthcare’s portfolio company Correct Care Solutions acquiring Conmed Healthcare Management, a provider of correctional facility healthcare services.
  • Thompson Street Capital Partners’ acquisition of Receivables Management Partners, a provider for healthcare accounts, from LaSalle Capital Group.
  • GS Capital Partners’ acquisition of Drayer Physical Therapy Institute, a provider of outpatient rehabilitation services, from Linden LLC.
  • Lightyear Capital’s acquisition of the Healthcare Benefit Solutions Group of Fidelity National Information Services.
  • Water Street Healthcare Partners’ acquisition of Breg Inc., the sports medicine business unit of Orthofix International.
  • Veritas Capital’s acquisition of the healthcare unit of Thomson Reuters.
